We missed seeing the butterflies emerge, just like I thought we would. But we did see get to see them up close in the jar and then let them free outside. We didn't touch them for fear of hurting their wings. Here are the photos I was able to get. Two butterflies in the jar. THe jar is dirty from fingerprints but you get the idea.
This was the only good picture of the butterflies with wings spread. As soon as we took the plastic wrap off the top, one butterfly flew away. The other one was stuck under the twigs. As soon as Abby pulled those out this butterfly started flapping its's wings hard trying to get out. It was all very exciting!

oh i hate it when the butterflies emerge and we don't get to witness the big event. and snapping fingermarks can only give your pics character. i love snapping my kids' fingermarks.
How fun! We were once lucky enough to watch a dragon fly emerge from its baby skin on the banks of ariver in Idaho. It was fascinating.
How beautiful! Sorry you missed them emerging, but what fun to see the change first hand!
