Mission Impossible?

The assignment: You have $100 to plan the family's menu for the next week until Sunday, March 18. That's three square meals a day for 10 days. Here's the grocery ads. Good luck!

Thirty minutes later, Eve and Marie hand me their menu and grocery list. I look it over and only have to do a little rearranging. I don't want to eat taco salad and 7-layer Mexican dip in consecutive days, they're too much alike.

Today we went grocery shopping. The total grocery bill was $93.56! That included our 10 gallons of milk for the week. I think they aced the assignment.

(Here at our house the five older girls take turns helping to plan and cook the menu for the week. I've decided that the three older ones should also learn to use the grocery ads to help create the menu and try to stick to our weekly food budget. Eve has the remainder of this week and Marie gets next week. That's why they had to work together on the above assignment.)

You guys are awesome! Your girls will be able to run their own homes with ease and this will bless the lives of generations to come. How cool!

I've mentioned the idea to Joseph. He flat out refuses saying they're more trouble than they're worth. He had one when he was younger so I guess he 's speaking from experience.

have you read man of the family by ralph moody? he writes about how he helped move cows from one part of the state to another. there were a couple hundred cows in the move and he got to know more than half of them. what was funny was that he mentioned how each were like "women in a sewing circle" with a distinct personality of their own. some were quiet and timid while others were bossy or busybodies. you should read the story, i bet you would like it better than little britches. anyway, i was wondering if your husband just had one of those annoying characters for a cow. :) my brother was a shepherd on the station and milked thirty cows. boy did he get to know each of them well too. i have been thinking one day of having a goat.

I have read Man of the Family and most of Ralph Moody's other books. We are currently reading Come On, Seabuscuit! as a read aloud.

What Mr. Moody says about cows is very accurate. Along with the farming we (the farm) also have about 100-200 head of cattle depending on the time of year. The cows personalities are all different. So are those of the chickens we have too.

Isn't it funny how everyone's perspectives are different? Vern would LOVE to have a milk cow. His family had one for years and years and he and his younger brother were usually the ones to take care of the milking.

What a great idea! I'm determined to have my boys be good cooks, house cleaners, etc. However, I don't think they will be as focused and compliant as your girls.
