Tagged: Gifts

Calandria tagged several of us to answer the following questions. It's taken me awhile to respond because I wanted a little time to stew over my answers.

What is a talent you seem to have been born with that you have discovered, grown, and celebrated?

This is the one that took me the longest to decide upon.My first inclination was to say music. I have loved to play the piano ever since I can remember. I am learning to play the violin and want to pick up the guitar again and also learn the flute or clarinet. My dad would gather my siblings and me when we were little and teach us the harmony for various songs sung by the Beatles or Peter, Paul, and Mary. I am not a solo singer but love to sing harmony with others. When I sing along to the radio it's usually to sing the harmony. I also have enjoyed playing the piano while my SIL plays the violin. We have done some beautiful musical pieces. But as I have thought more on this question the one talent my husband has pointed out several times to me is that I am (almost) always cheerful. I can usually be seen with a smile on my face, even afer shopping for 2 hours with six girls in tow. One of my favorite quotes comes from Sis. Marjorie Pay Hinckley, "I have two choices. I can choose to be happy or I can choose to be sad. I choose to be happy." (from Small and Simple Things, pg 59) I was even asked to give an enrichment meeting last year on how to be of good cheer because "you are always smiling, laughing, and happy."

What is a gift you think you don't have, that you most envy in others?

The ability to write, particularly children's books. I would love to be able to write wonderful children's literature and have articles printed in the Friend Magazine.

What is a talent that did not originally come easily to you, that nonetheless you've developed through practice and hardwork?

I would have to say teaching children. Growing up I was not the babysitter kind. I had no idea what to do around little children. Joseph and I have been married for almost 12 years now and of those twleve years 2 1/2 have been spent working with young women and the rest of the 9 1/2 years I have been working in Primary with 7 1/2 years serving in 4 different Primary Presidencies. I have come to love teaching sharing time and look forward to my turn. I also get great satisfaction out of teaching my own daughters and figuring out their learning styles and adjusting lessons to fit them as individuals. It was not easy at first to teach children but through a lot of practice and trial and error I have become much better at it and I enjoy it.

So those of you who are reading this and have blogs. . .tag you're it! I'd like to read what your answers are.

Thanks for doing this, Montse. It's fun getting to know new things about you. I would never have guessed that you were not the "babysitting kind" when you were that age.

I am amzaed to find that you feel you have had to learn to work with small children. You seem a natural. Emily always jokes to her husband that if she is ever "missing", she has run away to Montse' house, lol.
As to your cheerfulness, this shines in your smile and your children's faces. One can see they are loved and very happy.
