Back in August, President Gordon B. Hinckley, the prophet of our church, challenged all members to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. We finished reading the Book of Mormon as a family on December 31. The girls cheered and clapped when we read the last verse. It was a very joyous occasion. We were already reading in Ether when the challenge was put forth so we went about our reading differently than most. Instead of starting at the beginning of the Book of Mormon we started at Ether 11, read to the end of the Book of Mormon, started it again and read to Ether 10, thus reading the entire book by the end of the year. We set the goal to read only when the whole family was present. There were many days when we couldn't read from the Book of Mormon because Joseph had to work late or I had meetings, etc. We read a lot on Sundays though. It takes us 35 minutes to get to church so we'd read going to and from church. We also read a lot travelling back and forth from Fallon or to Utah.
In my individual reading I finished the Book of Mormon around the first week in December, so did Eve. She wanted to also read it by herself. That way she'd have gone through it twice by the end of the year: on her own and with the family.
