Cowboy Fare

(First off, I need to learn how to take pictures of food like Athena. This is not a very good shot).

I've been feeding the crew that has been here for the past few days and decided to share what they like to eat. Numero uno pick is BREAKFAST food for dinner. We had to have pancakes for dinner two nights in a row because they didn't get enough the first night. I must humbly admit, I can make some dang good hotcakes!

Last night the request was for biscuits and cheese. Yes, you read that right, biscuits and cheese with strawberry jam (homemade, of course), hard-boiled eggs and bacon. Ahem, obviously the bacon didn't make it to my plate. It mysteriously disappeared straight from my lips to my hips. :-D

Joseph's family has always eaten biscuits and cheese with strawberry jam. Joseph's dad used to eat them "on the trail" as a youngster wrangling wild mustangs in the mountains of southern Nevada. I particularly like them with apple jelly. Then it reminds me of a good slice of apple pie with sharp cheddar cheese melted over the top.

It's actually very tasty, even better than biscuits and sausage gravy. (Can that be possible?)

Mmmm. I can't wait to see what else you cook. I'm impressed that you feed a crew!--I would get myself all in a fluster.

We lived on a station, the shearers' quarters. Huge place with a huge kitchen, lots of showers and toilets and four bedrooms the size of a a tennis court each. My father was a farm labourer and during the shearing season sheared the sheep while my mother was fleeco. One year she cooked for the crew--that was a very busy job. I loved the years we spent living in the shearers quarters.

Wow, Athena, I never knew that about you! I just love learning about people's lives.
