B.B.B.

When Joseph's youngest sister, Joanna, was little he would try and do the three B's every day with her after lunch. He called it "The bed, the book, and the blanket." He'd read books to her while she wrapped up with a blanket on her bed and try to get her to take a nap. This is very sweet considering Joseph is 16 years older than Joanna. I've decided this will be my new habit to work on this week. The summer reading program with our bookmobile has started so it has given me a much needed nudge to start the B.B.B. up again with my younger daughters.

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be --
I had a Mother who read to me.

Here's what other habits I've been working on:

Habit 7 Hand written letters - easy when the goal is only one a week!
Habit 6 Latch on to the Affirmative did really well this week!
Habit 5 Stick to a school schedule harder for the older girls now that the farming is underway
Habit 4 Tickle the Ivory was able to play two days this week
Habit 3 Clean as I go - becoming a habit!
Habit 2 Use positive reinforcement with my children- habit
Habit 1 Exercise for 30 minutes every day - works better if I can do it first thing in the morning.

Great job on your habits & congrats for winning last month's prize! Your new habit sounds great, the three B's - I'll have to remember that one.

Thanks for the welcome ;) I read to my 14 month old son constantly (he brings me books more than toys to play with) - If I tried the 3Bs he'd keep me reading & never nap at all!!!

What a fun program and goal! I think my son would love this. Good luck this week ... are you supposed to take a nap, too :) ?!?

Reading is so important! It is harder as they get bigger. Such a joy when they finally love it for themselves.
I LOVE your shoe pictures. Sometimes the most mundane of things make for the best photograph. Don't worry about your kids-just keep taking those pictures. I think that a collage of some of the other common things on a farm would make a neat wall arrangement.

I love the acronym. What a great habit! My mom would read to us on her bed. Some of my best memories are of her reading to us.

Our variation - I read to them on the tramp when it is still light out.

Oh, I love the B.B.B.! I had to read it to my son. He loves reading to his baby sister when she's not pushing him away. Baby sister's can be so rude some times!

We spend way too much time going to the library that is 20 minutes away. What we wouldn't do for a bookmobile!

Wow! It looks like you're doing a great job with your habits.

Good luck with this one. I believe reading to and with children is a great way to expand vocabularies, teach them, and spend quality time together!

I love the 3Bs idea. I was thinking about it today as I was putting away some new board games I had just bought. I love to collect board games for the family, but I never actually pull them out and play with the kids. So, I'm thinking up a "quality time with kids" goal for next week.

Hi there-
Just found your blog while surfing through comments on Real Women Scrap Blog, and love finding other LDS moms to glean a little inspiration from!
I've really been wanting to get into a reading schedule with my four kids this summer, besides continuing with the Book of Mormon. I went to the library and picked up two copies of "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" and the book so we can listen and read along. Sometimes they get tired of reading out loud to each other and will read for a little longer if they can just follow along.

oops! That should have been "book on tape"!
