National TV Turn-off Results

We were very successful at keeping the TV off this week. And guess what? It wasn't even hard! I didn't miss watching FOX News in the morning and only partly missed watching Little People, Big World on Monday evening. My kids only complained about not watching TV the first day and that was because they were missing The Rifleman. I did allow TV to be watched on Thursday because I had to make the long trek to Reno with Eve and Sara so they could get their braces. They brought along DVD's and our portable TV while the other kids who stayed home watched only 1 movie the whole time we were gone. They've all decided it's a lot more fun to play games with each other, ride their scooters and bikes, make mudpies, hop on the horse, read, read, read and work in the garden. The week just seemed to fly right on by. We didn't even have time for some of our sewing projects. Another huge plus - my children were so worn out from playing at the end of the day there weren't any arguments about going to bed at 9 pm. In fact, some days they were asking to go to bed early! Just from that little experience alone I can definitely see why there is an obesity problem in kids nowadays. We are going to be changing our TV habits so we watch a lot less. Hurray for us!!

Hurray for you indeed! I miss playing outside so much. Even when I grew up during the 80's in Los Angeles we would play outside in the neighborhood all day long. Things have changed so much, but that doesn't mean we have to isolate ourselves indoors all the time.

Great! I am so glad that it worked out for you. You are right about them being more tired. I hadn't even thought of that one, but it is true. Thanks so much for participating. I am happy to have "met" you!

Awesome!! We could take a lesson from that. :-)

Hooray for your family. It's amazing what they can do to entertain themselves when there's no technological device involved. Just the other day my girls were outside making fairy houses out of leaves and sticks and fairies out of cherry blossoms and dandelions. I loved watching them be creative and yes, it really does make them more tired and ready for bed.
