Our local library is having a quilt square design contest for kids. The only criteria was they had to be 12 1/2 inches square and patriotic using red, white, and blue. Here is what Eve, Sara, and Marie came up with. Eve wanted the middle square to mimic a flag and sewed the strips around it using a courthouse steps design. Sara wanted to be more abstract and created a mountain scenery by sewing all the applique pieces on her square. Marie decided to do redwork of a Sunbonnet Sue for the middle square and then sewed the strips log cabin style around it. They had a fabulous time and I think they did a fantastic job.
